The pixel style comes from the early days of video games, when computers had limited performance, so the first game developers had to use a very limited number of pixel dots to make up the screen to save energy and ensure smooth operation.
Even with limited hardware, this pixel style of gaming took the world by storm. The earliest can be traced back to 1972, when the game PONG was developed by the American company Atari.
It was followed by Space Invaders, a 1978 game by Japanese gamer Taihō, and Pac-Man by Namco of Japan.
By 1983, Nintendo of Japan launched the FC Red and White, a true and much more popular home console, and the era of pixelated style came full circle.
