Location-Based Entertainment Design Proposal Guide: How to Plan a Venue People Come Back To

Most entertainment projects begin with the wrong design. These designs may have low ceilings, tall column-filled halls, or misaligned windows. Reports state that the market for location-based entertainment is set to increase to USD 15.33 billion worldwide by 2029 from USD 5.47 billion. With more venues vying for the same clients, those who succeed will incorporate existing design flaws as unique selling propositions. This guide demonstrates how entertainment space design can maximize revenue through height, views, and levels. A well-planned entertainment project design should also connect spatial planning, visitor flow, and attractions to create a venue that encourages repeat visits.

Height, Views and Levels Are Design Assets

Costs are incurred based on the area rented out. Guests experience the volume, illumination, and distance in such places. All three aspects are taken advantage of by intelligent designers. In entertainment project concept design, these spatial characteristics should be considered from the beginning, helping designers identify opportunities for distinctive attractions and efficient space utilization.

Ceiling Height

Having high ceilings creates opportunities for multiple activities within one footprint. A zip line or climbing wall can be placed overhead while seating areas, queues, and games can be positioned below. The guests on the floor level get to observe what happens above them, and they yearn for a chance to participate, thus making the ceiling act as free advertising. Check three things before you start drawing: structural load points, sprinkler lines, and safe fall zones.

Views

Window views require no construction. Place cafes and lounges next to the glass. This will keep visitors longer and make them more likely to take pictures. Place noisy equipment away from the windows so that the view remains tranquil. Light fixtures must be planned to account for shifts in daylight during the day. Integrating these considerations into entertainment space design helps turn existing architectural features into valuable parts of the visitor experience.

Floor Levels

Routes are created by different floors. Visitors will traverse through the entire venue rather than merely go one loop. Each level must have a strong draw, such as an enormous exhibit or a slide exit. Open sightlines between levels link groups together. Parents can observe their children from the ground while they play above them.

How to Turn a Tricky Building Into the Main Attraction

Location-Based Entertainment Design Proposal Guide: How to Plan a Venue People Come Back To 2

Weird buildings scare investors. But the cheap rent lures them. With the correct plan, the flaw turns into the attraction. An effective entertainment project design process evaluates structural constraints, visitor expectations, and commercial goals before finalizing the layout.

Start with a Full Site Survey

Good entertainment space design needs facts first. ESAC collects a CAD plan, site photos and videos, theme requirements, and location data. Gather:

✓ A CAD plan with exact ceiling heights

✓ Photos and video of every corner

✓ Positions of columns, pipes, and windows

✓ Guest access routes and nearby traffic

Put the Problem on Show

Do not hide the features. Let them stand out. The empty space will be an event zone. The column will hold the sign or climbing frame. The glass wall will be the café. Strong entertainment project design treats the unusual feature as the headline, not the flaw.

Link the Space with One Story

A story connects all levels. Otherwise, three floors seem like three shops. The same materials, colors, and lights can be repeated. Then guests will see that this is one place. A cohesive entertainment project concept design brings together the theme, spatial layout, lighting, and attractions to establish a recognizable identity throughout the venue.

Case Studies: Two Venues That Used Their Space Well

Two ESAC projects show how well height and views can be used. They also demonstrate how entertainment project concept design can turn the physical characteristics of a venue into memorable visitor experiences.

Case: WUNPARK Shanghai

Location-Based Entertainment Design Proposal Guide: How to Plan a Venue People Come Back To 3

WUNPARK is located on the 3rd floor of the Ruihong Xintiandi Sun Palace building in Hongkou District, Shanghai. With an area of 3,400 sqm, it offers different levels with varying ceiling heights, which is something you will normally never see in commercial city mall buildings. ESAC took advantage of the high ceilings to construct three floors surrounding the story of the "Hyper-Train Platform."

Actually, this project had a challenging request in the briefing stage. On the one hand, guests come together, but on the other, they may not really like the same things, some wanting high-tech, others speed, digital games, etc. The layout enables the guests to make their choices, go separate ways, and then meet back together!

There are essentially four zones as train stops. At Time Rift, guests encounter giant gears, neon lights, and a central "Space-Time Hub" installation. VR, racing simulators, and a shooting range are located in close proximity. Interstellar Adventure transforms the high ceilings into the environment of the attraction by creating a slide matrix, a 150-meter electromagnetic zip line, 360-degree track cycling, and an aerial bungee experience. Guests can shoot while watching laser guns hanging over their heads.

The ESAC company claims it has received a total of pre-sale orders amounting to more than RMB 10 million within 48 hours after launching.

This project illustrates how entertainment space design can accommodate different visitor preferences within one connected environment. By integrating multiple activity zones into a unified theme, entertainment project design can help create a destination that appeals to families, groups, and visitors with different interests.

Case: KPFUN Super Party, Shenzhen

Location-Based Entertainment Design Proposal Guide: How to Plan a Venue People Come Back To 5

KPFUN Super Party was launched on June 27, 2026. Here, there are two floors, along with an area of 20,000 square meters located on the fifth level of K11 ECOAST’s South Pavilion. One ticket grants access to more than 100 rides and activities. The highlight is the breathtaking view through the large windows, which overlook the ocean when it is bright outside and also at sunset when it turns orange.

ESAC placed the Orange Sea Cat Café right by the windows, where visitors can relax after a session of karting or climbing while watching the sea waves below. The same view can be enjoyed during family outings, couples' dates, team-building exercises, and even individual breaks. Apart from developing a brand identity for KPFUN Super Party, ESAC also designed an enormous gashapon fortress that serves as a major attraction point for photos.

This venue is still new, so kindly inquire about its operational data once it is available.

The project highlights the importance of incorporating the surrounding environment into entertainment project concept design. Rather than treating the ocean view as a secondary feature, the layout uses it to support relaxation, social interaction, and the overall visitor experience.

Both projects demonstrate how a clear concept and thoughtful space planning can turn architectural characteristics into distinctive attractions. The same approach can inform sports center design and sports complex design when a venue combines physical activities, spectator areas, social spaces, and other forms of entertainment. However, sports facilities also require specific consideration of circulation, safety, equipment clearances, and the needs of different sports.

Conclusion

Your building’s limitations don’t matter as much as your architectural concept. Think of ceiling height, outside views, and floor levels as features that can be used in architecture. Go on a site tour so you can get a feel for the location. If there is any unusual architectural feature, put it on display. All levels should contribute to the narrative of the same story.

Location-Based Entertainment Design Proposal Guide: How to Plan a Venue People Come Back To 8

WUNPARK took advantage of its 10-meter ceiling height to create three levels for its playground. KPFUN utilized the sea view to attract visitors. Both examples transformed a building’s distinctive features into major attractions.

Whether planning a family entertainment center, an activity-based venue, or a mixed-use leisure destination, effective entertainment space design begins with understanding the site and its users. A structured entertainment project design process then turns those insights into a functional layout, while entertainment project concept design connects the theme, attractions, and spatial experience into one coherent destination.

For projects that combine recreation with physical activity, similar planning principles can also support sports center design and sports complex design, provided that the layout addresses the technical and operational requirements of each facility.
