Project Name: WEGO PARK Kid's playground
Project Location: Taiyuan Maoye Tiandi Phase II, Third Floor
Project Area: 1,900 m²
Project Service: Design + Construction
Design Concept: With the curiosity and exploratory drive of children aged 0-12 at its core, the "Toy Factory" is established as a brand-new theme
Keywords: Children’s Playground; interactive games; Unifying Theme ; story-driven play route ; Toy Factory; Lively children’s play atmosphere
Eight years ago, “Mai Luo Baby King” won the hearts of families with its basic play offerings. However, as the market evolved, the issue of “every playground looks the same” became increasingly apparent.
We integrated vintage-style toy and home appliance elements throughout the space, built immersive settings with block toys, and simulated a toy production assembly line to seamlessly connect the entrance-area electric game zone, career role-play area, and play castle physical activity zone into a continuous, story-driven play route. This makes children feel as if they are inside a real toy factory, embarking on a fun-filled journey of exploration.
The electric game zone offers game types suited to the cognitive and motor skills of different age groups. The career role-play area provides a variety of occupational scenarios designed for children aged 0–12. The play castle physical zone includes play equipment with varying difficulty levels, tailored to children’s physical development needs.
As a beloved local spot that has accompanied children for eight years, we didn’t want the renovation to lose that sentimental value—instead, we aimed to inject new energy through carefully crafted details. From visual elements to interactive design, every corner holds thoughtful touches.
The service counter and entrance feature an enlarged vintage-style cassette player and microphone combo, with parts that are touchable and operable. This blends retro elements with the thematic atmosphere, serving both functional purposes and becoming a standout visual highlight within the space.
Between the entrance and the main play area, an abstract train head sculpture is installed. The train’s eyes are dynamically designed, capable of flexibly switching between different expressions. This greatly sparks children’s curiosity and desire to interact, making it a popular photo spot and enhancing the fun and appeal of the project.
Additionally, the space incorporates numerous subtle details tailored to children’s cognitive development, such as interesting educational graphics and fairy-tale scenes painted on walls and equipment, allowing kids to learn knowledge naturally while they play.
For the color scheme, we combined Macaron and Morandy tones. The blend of these two soft palettes creates a warm and lively children’s play atmosphere, while avoiding excessively bright or harsh colors.
At the same time, champagne gold metal elements are subtly incorporated, adding a sense of refinement and upscale texture to the overall scheme. This enriches the spatial layers and visual quality, meeting parents’ expectations for aesthetic quality and allowing children to enjoy their play experience in a comfortable color environment.
Color coordination across different zones fully considers the visual preferences of children in various age groups. For example, younger children’s areas use brighter and more lively colors, while older children’s areas feature slightly more subdued yet still playful tones.
3. Promoting Family Integration with Human-Centered Design
In the past, most children’s play spaces focused solely on the kids, often overlooking the needs of accompanying parents—who were frequently left waiting in cramped corners, making childcare outings a tiring task. For this upgrade, we placed “family integration” at the core, addressing parents’ pain points through thoughtful details.
Safety and Tactile Experience: Different zones use varied materials, creating rich tactile experiences for children through changes in texture from one space to another.
Added Parent-Friendly Amenities: We incorporated ample storage areas and comfortable parent rest spaces, allowing adults to relax in a pleasant environment while accompanying their children.
Ensure safety and enrich tactile experiences
Making the space welcoming for both children and adults.
